Howard Grossman

Howard's Biography
Howard S. Grossman graduated from the University of Miami, School of Law in May, 1984. Mr. Grossman has been practicing 32 years, having been admitted to the Florida Bar in December, 1984. He is a member of the following United States District Courts: Southern District of Florida (since 1992); Middle District of Florida (since 2007); Southern District of Texas (since 2008); Colorado (since 2010). He is also a member of the following United States Court of Appeals: Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals (since 1998), First Circuit Court of Appeals (since 2014).
Mr. Grossman was Board Certified by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization in Worker’s Compensation from 1992 – 2007. Since 2007, he has been an Emeritus Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law through 2015. He is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been nominated as a “Super Lawyer” from 2006-2010; and 2013 through 2016. He was President of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association 2007-2008. Mr. Grossman was a panel speaker at the 2013 Florida Workers’ Compensation Institute Longshore session on the subject of presenting a case before an Administrative Law Judge and the proposed changes to 29 C.F.R § 18. In August 2015, Mr. Grossman was a panel speaker at the 2015 Florida Workers’ Compensation Institute Longshore and Defense Base Act session on discovery tools and the recently adopted changes to 29 C.F.R. §18. In March 2017, Mr. Grossman was an invited speaker on “Emerging Trends in DBA” at the 2017 Annual Longshore Conference at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor.
Mr. Grossman has presented on behalf of the Admiralty Section of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), “Defense Medical Examinations – Dirty Deeds Done Not So Cheap” at the 2013 Annual Convention in San Francisco, CA. He is a Fellow of the American Association for Justice, and a Diplomate of the National College of Advocacy, September, 2012. He has written an article published in the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group Journal, “Workers’ First Watch” Winter 2011, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap!” and he co-authored a chapter entitled Death Benefits Under the Longshore & Harbor Worker’s Act in The Longshore Textbook, Howard S. Grossman & Scott L. Thaler, The Longshore Textbook, 111-121 (Steven Birnbaum et al. eds., 7th ed. 2017).
In short, the Mr. Grossman has a long record of experience and accomplishment at the highest levels of litigation, and has attained a preeminent national reputation amongst the field of Defense Base Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers Act claimant practitioners.
Mr. Grossman has appeared as lead counsel throughout the state courts of Florida, the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida, co-counsel in the Southern District of Texas, Rhode Island Superior Court and United States District Court, Rhode Island; admitted pro hac vice in the United States District Court of Hawaii; United States District Court, Southern District of California; pro hac vice Fulton County Superior Court, and dozens of formal hearings before Administrative Law Judges where compensability of injury and/or death, permanency, disability and calculation of average weekly wage have been contested. My practice includes representation of the surviving dependents of workers who have died in unexplained or improperly determined causes of death, and complex medical causation cases routinely referred by other DBA practitioners who are prominent attorneys, but do not wish to undertake the time, nor risk the costs involved in representation of Claimants in these types of cases. So called “bet the farm cases.”
Having practiced for 32 years, he has tried all types and matters of cases. Some of which have included litigating against Fortune 500 companies, including Ford Motor Company (a six week products liability case) involving quadriplegia caused by a roof crush; medical malpractice cases involving stroke victims and the failure to administer TPA against the top medical malpractice defense attorneys in the State of Florida; admiralty claims against the largest cruise lines in Federal Court alleging maintenance and cure, general maritime, unseaworthiness, and Jones Act claims. He has also represented numerous passengers in cruise ship and boating accident claims.

Scott L. Thaler

Scott's Biography
Attorney Scott L. Thaler was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2010. The scope of Mr. Thaler’s civil practice includes personal injury and wrongful death claims, automobile, products liability, and medical malpractice.
In January 2016, Mr. Thaler began assisting Howard S. Grossman in Defense Base Act claims. Mr. Thaler co-authored a chapter entitled Death Benefits Under the Longshore & Harbor Worker’s Act in The Longshore Textbook, Howard S. Grossman & Scott L. Thaler, The Longshore Textbook, 111-121 (Steven Birnbaum et al. eds., 7th ed. 2017). Prior to joining Mr. Grossman’s office, Mr. Thaler worked as a prosecutor in the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Mr. Thaler handled a wide variety of cases ranging from simple misdemeanors to first degree murder cases. Mr. Thaler gained invaluable litigation skills as he tried in excess of forty cases to jury verdict, argued numerous motions, and handled several appellate issues. Mr. Thaler was selected by the governor of Florida to handle several executive assignments in other counties in Florida. Additionally, Mr. Thaler was selected by the State Attorney to handle parole proceedings in Tallahassee, Florida, for inmates seeking parole.

Callie J. Fixelle

Callie's Biography
Attorney Callie J. Fixelle was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2017. Ms. Fixelle graduated from Suffolk University Law School in April 2016. While in law school, she clerked for the Honorable Stephen M. Limon at the Suffolk County Juvenile Court in Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Fixelle served as Chief of Operations for the Student Bar Association in her second and third year of law school and was a member of the Suffolk Law Trial Team for two years. Following Ms. Fixelle’s second year of law school, she began working as a law clerk for Grossman Attorneys at Law.
The scope of Ms. Fixelle’s civil practice includes Longshore & Harbor Workers claims, Defense Base Act claims, admiralty and maritime, personal injury, wrongful death claims, automobile, products liability and medical malpractice. Ms. Fixelle is an active member of the American Association for Justice, Florida Justice Association, and a member of Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group.

Lisa Mittelmark

Lisa's Biography
Lisa J. Mittelmark joined Grossman Attorneys at Law after 18+ years as a paralegal at an insurance defense, medical malpractice and general litigation firm. She has aided attorneys on hundreds of insurance defense, personal injury, asbestos, class action, MDL (Multi-District Litigation), medical malpractice and wrongful death cases involving complex medical and legal issues.
After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and at the request of her grandfather, obtain her Paralegal Certificate. She began her legal career in 1993 as a paralegal for an asbestos litigation firm in NJ before packing it up and moving to Florida in 1996.
Mrs. Mittelmark lives in Boca Raton with her husband Michael and when not working, enjoys running, reading, cooking/baking, yoga and cruising through the Caribbean with her husband.

Adam Yellin

Adam's Biography
Adam Yellin joined Grossman Attorneys at Law in 2012 as a nurse paralegal. As a former Registered Nurse, Mr. Yellin has been working in the legal industry for over twelve years. This has proven to be a tremendous benefit in assisting our attorneys, particularly in cases involving medical-related litigation, including personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, Defense Base Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation claims.
Mr. Yellin has been a member of Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group since 2014 and has handled hundreds of Defense Base Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation claims involving complex legal and medical issues.
Outside of work, Adam enjoys travelling, photography, tennis and spending time with friends and family.

Renee's Biography
Renee Luna has been with Grossman Attorneys at Law since 2014. She began as a file clerk while earning a B.A. in English Literature at Florida Atlantic University. Upon graduating she was offered the opportunity to become a legal assistant where she now assists the attorneys and paralegals in complex litigations, including Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation, and Defense Base Act claims.
Born and raised in South Florida, Renee enjoys going to the beach, traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Melissa Ali

Melissa's Biography
Melissa S. Ali joined Grossman Attorneys At Law in 2013. She has been specializing in personal injury law since 2006 with experience in Medical Malpractice, Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act, including Defense Base Act claims. Melissa provides support to all of the attorneys within the firm assisting with investigation, drafting documents, trial preparation and maintaining her clients’ files.
While Melissa is a native of Trinidad and Tobago, she has lived most of her life here in South Florida. Obtaining her high school diploma at the age of 16, Melissa continued her education in computer engineering, but because of her passion for helping others, she decided to change the direction of her career to the legal industry. Melissa is dedicated to her work and creating relationships with the people she meets.
Although Melissa is a hard worker, she also plays hard! Growing up on an island, Melissa is the true definition of an “Island Girl.” She loves nature and engaging in outdoor activities, for example: hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, or just relaxing at the beach. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jonathan, and daughter, Emily.
